OGDEN — A woman died and a man was injured after being hit by a vehicle while crossing a crosswalk Thursday night.

The 25-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were crossing at the intersection of Wall Avenue and Binford Street around 6:30 p.m., according to Ogden City Police.

A 2007 Jeep Wrangler was traveling northbound and struck both of the pedestrians while they were in the crosswalk. The woman received serious head injuries from hitting the front of the Jeep. The man's foot and ankle were injured in the accident. Both individuals were transported to an area hospital where the woman died from her injuries.

Officials said that they don't believe alcohol or speeding was a factor in the accident. However, the high winds caused several power outages and the traffics signals and lights were out on Wall Avenue at the time of the accident.

The crosswalk has been the location of past auto pedestrian fatalities, according to Ogden Police. UDOT recently installed signs and a marked crosswalk, and the St. Annes Rescue Mission placed bright red walking flags on either side of the road.

The flags were not being used by the two victims at the time of the accident.
