(KSL News) -- Laser technology takes colonoscopies to the next level, allowing doctors to see parts of the colon they couldn't see before.
The images we're used to show normal shaped glands, but laser technology offers a below-the-surface view traditional imaging cannot offer.
Using lasers on the same patient, doctors found unusually shaped glands which required biopsy.
Dr. Thomas Wang, Gastroenterologist: "In this case we did find several lesions that looked pre-malignant with the microscope. And we were able to remove those and potentially could have saved his life."
Laser developers hope this device could one day allow doctors to immediately tell patients whether or not their polyps are cancerous.
