WEST VALLEY CITY — A teenager jumped out of a window 15 feet off the ground to escape an apartment fire early Friday morning.
West Valley City fire crews responded to the fire on Rosemary Circle shortly after midnight.
Witnesses said the 14-year-old boy's mother also lives in the apartment, but she was walking home when the fire started.
"One of them did jump from the second floor and did sustain some injuries from that fall. We transported him to an area hospital to be checked out," said West Valley City Fire Marshal Bob Fitzgerald.
The boy's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Investigators said firefighters kept the fire contained to that apartment.
They don't know exactly how the fire started but believe it began upstairs. A neighbor said she saw candles burning in the home.
