LAYTON — Just hours after arresting a man suspected of robbing a gas station, another man allegedly robbed the same store.

Layton Police Lt. Shawn Horton said the Sinclair station at 1508 N. U.S. 89 doesn't have a history of frequent robberies. So for it to be robbed twice in 24 hours has detectives wondering if the two incidents are related.

Just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, a man walked into the Sinclair station, claimed he had a gun and took money from the cash register, Horton said. Earlier in the morning, a gas station at 2600 S. U.S. 89 in Bountiful was also robbed.

By Tuesday afternoon, investigators were questioning Daniel Goodell, 33, a former employee at the Sinclair station who stopped working there about a week ago, Horton said.

Goodell reportedly talked to others in the past about robbing the store, Horton said. A store employee picked Goodell out of a photo lineup, and the man was arrested for investigation of aggravated robbery.

Just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, another man walked into the Sinclair and attempted to rob the store. The clerk, however, closed the cash register and called 911. The man walked around the counter and got into a fight with the clerk, Horton said. The clerk backed away after the man produced a knife, and the man took an undisclosed amount of cash.

Although the man's physical description, clothing and mannerisms were similar to Goodell's, Horton said Goodell was sitting in the Davis County Jail when the robbery happened.

Detectives were still investigating Wednesday whether Goodell could be linked to the Bountiful robbery.

Anyone with information on the Wednesday robbery can call police at 801-497-8300.
