(AP) - Talisman Energy Inc. shares soared in extended trading after activist investor Carl Icahn tweeted that he has accumulated a nearly 6 percent stake in the Canadian oil and gas company.
The billionaire investor said Monday on Twitter that he holds 61 million shares in Talisman, making him the company's largest shareholder. He says he may have conversations with its management regarding its strategic alternatives and board seats. That would make Icahn
Icahn is known for investing in companies and shaking them up through his pursuit of leadership and other dramatic changes.
A representative for Talisman could not be reached immediately for comment.
Talisman shares are up 6.9 percent to $13.63 in after-hours trading. Its stock added 56 cents to close regular trading at $12.75, up 12.5 percent this year.
