MADRID (AP) - A U.S. military refueling plane has made an emergency landing at Spain's Palma de Mallorca airport in the Mediterranean Balearic islands.

A statement from the U.S. embassy in Madrid said the plane, a USAF KC-135 Tanker Call, which refuels other planes in the air, was diverted Monday due to a suspected fuel leak.

It says the aircraft is safe and the crew is investigating the problem. There were no details on the plane's route or crew numbers.

The airport authority says the plane landed at 8 a.m. (0600 GMT) without incident.

The U.S. has a naval base in Rota in southwestern Spain and troops and planes at the nearby southwestern Moron de la Frontera air base.
