LONDON (AP) - Some couples buy matching outfits. Royal couples get matching heraldry.

Britain's College of Arms said Friday that Prince William and his wife Kate have been awarded a joint logo which will represent them as a couple "in heraldic terms."

The conjugal coat unites William's busy royal shield _ replete with English and Scottish lions (and a harp to symbolize Ireland) _ with Kate's more understated red-and-blue shield marked by a chevron and three acorns.

Elaborate heraldry has long been a part of the pageantry surrounding the royals and Kate's family was granted its own coat before she married William in a ceremony watched live by millions.
