LOGAN — The Utah State Aggies enter Friday's contest at San Jose State after suffering a tough 17-14 loss to USC last week on national TV.

USC has a good history of players who are Heisman winners in Carson Palmer, Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, Charles White, Mike Garrett, O.J. Simpson and Marcus Allen, and the Trojans have always been considered one of the top teams in the nation. Utah State knew it was going to be a battle and it was.

Utah State has a player on its roster who considered a long-shot Heisman candidate in quarterback Chuckie Keeton. In four games this season, Keeton is putting up some good numbers with 1,102 passing yards and 14 touchdowns.

The Aggies are 2-2 overall and 1-0 in their first season in the Mountain West Conference.

Utah State is currently tied for first in the MWC West Division with Wyoming, which is currently 3-1 on the season, and, like Utah State, the Cowboys are 1-0 in conference play.

Along with Utah State and Wyoming, Boise State, New Mexico, Colorado State, and Air Force are also in the MWC West Division.

Utah State's losses are to Pac-12 teams. The Aggies lost their first game of the season to Utah, 30-26, in Salt Lake City. Their second non-conference loss was to USC last week.

Looking down the schedule for the rest of the season, the Aggies they only have one non-conference game remaining, which is a home game against BYU (1-2). The Aggies will also play Boise State (2-2), Hawaii (0-3), Colorado St (1-3), and Wyoming (3-1) at home.

The Aggies have three road games left at San Jose State (1-2), New Mexico (1-2) and UNLV (2-2).

Utah State's contest with the Spartans kicks off at 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN. You can follow David Winkworth on Twitter @Davito23.
