Collision in Hurricane diverts early morning traffic

HURRICANE — A car drifted over the center lane on State Street and 2500 West in Hurricane and crashed head-on into another vehicle early Sunday morning. Police said they believe alcohol was involved in the accident.

Officers responded to a call Sunday at 12:55 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, bystanders were working to extinguish a fire in one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Multiple travel lanes were blocked and traffic was diverted for a short time as officers worked to clean up the accident.

Police said a grey BMW was traveling eastbound and drifted into oncoming traffic. A brown Chevy pickup was on State Street heading west when the BMW crossed over and hit it. An unidentified man was driving the pickup truck and had a male passenger. The male driver of the BMW was alone in his car at the time of the incident.

All three involved in the crash were transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center with various injuries.

Police said the have reason to believe the driver of the BMW was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. They issued a DUI charge as well as other traffic related charges.
