WEST VALLEY CITY — Police continued looking Thursday for witnesses and the gunman who shot three people in a park Wednesday night.
The incident was the culmination of an ongoing argument between two people who had reportedly been trading barbs on Facebook, said West Valley Police Sgt. Jason Hauer.
The two agreed to meet at a park, near 3400 West and 270 South, Wednesday to settle their dispute. They both showed up about 10 p.m., each with additional friends. At some point, their discussion became heated and someone fired multiple shots at the other group, Hauer said.
"The crime scene that we have here is pretty big," Sgt. Jason Hauer said shortly after the shooting. "It's dark. We're trying to determine what is part of the crime scene and what isn't. We do believe one person did the shooting."
Three people, ages 21, 20 and 16, were transported to local hospitals with gunshot wounds. At least two had been released by Thursday, he said.
"It's potentially gang-related, but we haven't been able to solidify that. (But) we believe it's gang-related," Hauer said.
