SALT LAKE CITY — Many of us received a hard-cold slap of reality last week when the Jack Black comedy "School of Rock" celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Yes, that said 10. I know right?
Anyway, with that I thought I'd take a look at other films you may be surprised to learn are turning the big 1-0 this year.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Disney's swashbuckling adventure that gave Jerry Bruckheimer a solid gold house turned 10 on July 9 of this year.
It was 10 years ago that audiences were stunned by a movie that was more fun than any living soul has ever had on the ride it's based after.
This year doesn't just mark the 10-year anniversary of the film; it also celebrates the 10-year anniversary of the release of the last watchable Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
The Christmas comedy "Elf" was a huge hit and it may surprise you to know that you have now been quoting Buddy the Elf for 10 years.
"Elf" will turn 10 on November 7, which means it's only 480 years away from becoming Master Tinker.
The film has now become a Christmas classic and I have a feeling in another 10 years it will be just as funny.
It has been 10 years since Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron made Mini Coopers cool again.
The remake "The Italian Job" turned 10 on May 30 and it still seems fresh. Don't act like you don't get a little gitty when you see it on FX and you end up watching it even though you have to sit through the commercials and the DVD is sitting on your shelf six feet away.
If the fact that "The Italian Job" is 10 years old, you're going to feel really old if you remember seeing the original, because it turned 44 on September 3.
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
It's been 10 years since nerds and non-nerds united to celebrate the capstone to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The film was the top-grossing movie of 2003 and won a hoard of Academy Awards including best picture.
What's even stranger is that the final movie in the series turns 10 on December 17, which means the previous two films are even older.
"The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" are 12 and 11 years old respectively.
Remember "Finding Nemo"? Well, Nemo is now getting ready for college because the movie turned 10 on the same day as "The Italian Job", May 30.
Nemo reminds us of the good old days when we were excited about new Pixar movies that weren't a forced sequel or "Planes."
Here's the saddest thing about Nemo turning 10, if you saw it as a kid and loved it, you're no longer a kid and if you took your kid to go see it, your child is no longer a kid. Time flies.
