KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - An autopsy carried out by military authorities in Congo shows that Tjostolv Moland, a Norwegian citizen imprisoned in Congo since 2009, died by hanging himself.

In a communique, the army's deputy auditor Gen. Munkuto Kiyana said: "The investigation shows Moland committed suicide, and that he committed suicide by hanging himself."

Moland along with another Norwegian were sentenced to death in Congo in the murder of their driver. The court in the northeastern city of Kinsangani also convicted them of spying for Norway because they were carrying military ID cards at the time. They denied the charges and the Norwegian government has denied that the men were spies.
