Fire Sweeps Through Midvale Business

Around 2:30 this morning, a storage area next to their home went up in flames. The fire then spread to their house, forcing them to get out.

Firefighters could see the orange glow from blocks away. As they got closer they knew this was going to be a fight.

The fire started at a home converted into a storage area for a scuba diving business. Since it's a wooden structure, the flames just took off, gutting the building, melting a boat in the driveway and eventually spreading to the house next door.

Erica Schacht, Witness: "It went fast. She came and knocked on my door, and it was over just where the boat is. All of the sudden it was the whole house on fire."

Rosalind Moreno's house is next to the business. She rushed her kids out of the house and a short time later her garage started to burn.

Rosalind Moreno: "Scary. I'm just glad we got out."

She burned her arm as she jumped in her minivan to save it from the flames.

Rosalind Moreno: "The van was smoking. It was hot and the door, the mirror and the window..."

Erica Schacht, Witness: "She moved the van and it was already partially melted." (reporter question: "Did she burn here arm in the process?") "She did a little bit, yeah." (reporter question: "She had to be treated for smoke inhalation. How is she doing?") "She's doing great."

Moreno had to be treated for smoke inhalation but firefighters say her injuries were minor.

Investigators believe the fire started in the garage on the west side of the building, but they don't know what caused the fire.

The business that was impacted is called "Scuba For You". Although the company has insurance, there's no doubt that it will have a financial impact on business since with summer approaching.
