Nishi Gupta reportingOne man is dead after the dump truck he was driving crashed into a wall and burst into flames. It happened near 1200 North on I-15.
The victim has been identified as 58 yr old Jene Adams of Midvale.
Police say he was going north on I-15, crossed over to the south-bound lanes, crashing into the sound wall. His truck went up in flames and he was not able to get out.
The Commuter Link video showed the smoke as it filled the sky. Chopper Five got in closer, revealing the completely charred dump truck. Several concrete barriers were also knocked out of formation.
Traffic was backed up for a several miles as investigators looked for answers.
A UHP spokesman said another driver with the same trucking company wasn't too far behind the victim and may have seen what happened.
Lt. Shawn Judd, Utah Highway Patrol, "He thinks maybe he lost a tire on the front axle and a had a tire blow out and that could've been what caused the vehicle to cross over."
Investigators have not ruled out other possible causes, such as a medical emergency to the driver.
About five other cars were damaged when the truck kicked up debris, but luckily no injuries.
