LAS VEGAS — Former BYU center Brandon Davies ended his first career NBA game the same way he ended most of his games at BYU — with a win.
Davies is playing for the Los Angeles Clippers in the Vegas Summer League. LA beat the Atlanta Hawks 90-83 to start summer league play 1-0.
After beginning the game on the bench, Davies made his debut at the 3:26 mark of the first quarter. Davies' first professional shot was an 18-footer, which unfortunately did not go in — Davies, however, wouldn't stay scoreless for long. He scored his first NBA basket in the third quarter on a 10-foot soft-hook from the baseline. Davies played a little over 15 minutes and finished with four points on 2-of-6 shooting; he also picked up five rebounds, one assist and two blocks.
"It was definitely fun," Davies said after his first game in the NBA. "Obviously I had a little jitters here and there, but hopefully I got all those out ... coaches are extremely confident in me; even running some plays for me."
Davies not only received a summer league invite, he was also given a partially-guaranteed contract with LA. Teams typically give those types of contracts to players they believe have a good shot to make the team come fall.
While Brandon didn't light up the scoreboard, he played extremely well on defense. He was active on both ends of the floor, which should be something new Clippers head coach Doc Rivers (who was in attendance Friday) can appreciate.
Davies and the Clippers won't play again until Sunday when they face the NBA D-League Select team.
