AMERICAN FORK — An 11-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Friday with serious injuries after a boating accident on Utah Lake.
Emergency dispatchers got the initial call from people who were still on Utah Lake and were bringing the boy to the American Fork Boat Harbor. They told dispatchers the boy had serious gashes to his legs from the propeller.
"There were several people on the boat," said Utah County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Spencer Cannon. "They didn't realize the victim was still in the water."
Cannon said the injuries do not appear life threatening, but they were significant. He said deep cuts to the legs can extremely serious or even deadly.
"You've got a pretty large tissue area there, and, of course, some arteries that could create problems," he said.
The boy was transported to American Fork Hospital.
