MURRAY — A man is in extremely critical condition after a crash on Interstate 15 involving a motorcycle and two vehicles.
The wreck occurred Monday at 4:36 p.m., according to the Utah Highway Patrol. A woman driving a Toyota Camry in the HOV lane attempted to change lanes and nearly hit a woman in a Honda Odyssey in the lane next to her.
The driver of the Camry overcorrected and lost control, spinning sideways before being hit in the rear quarter-panel by the driver of the Odyssey.
A motorcyclist was traveling in the HOV lane and hit the side of the Camry before being ejected onto the freeway, at which point the rider's helmet came off due to the straps not being tightened correctly, according to UHP.
The rider, 24-year-old Jose Miranda of Salt Lake City, was transported to the hospital with severe head trauma and was in critical condition as of Monday night. The driver of the Camry received minor injuries and the driver of the Odyssey was not injured.
Traffic was congested on I-15 as the freeway was closed to three northbound lanes until about 6:30 p.m. while the crash was investigated.
