BEAVER — A Las Vegas man and his two young children injured Monday when their vehicle blew a tire and rolled near Beaver remained in critical condition Tuesday.
Two young children, 5-year-old Alexa Clayton and 6-year-old Patrick Clayton, were not wearing seat belts when the front tire on the family's Ford Explorer blew out and the SUV rolled into the median just before 2:30 p.m. Monday, Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said.
Both children were ejected from the southbound SUV, UHP reported. Alexa suffered a possible broken neck, and Patrick sustained severe head trauma. The children were taken by medical helicopter from the scene about 10 miles south of Beaver to a Salt Lake City hospital, where they remained in critical condition Tuesday.
Driver Patrick A. Clayton, 31, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition, then transferred by helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. His condition had not improved Tuesday, Johnson said.
The mother, Eva Enriquez Plascen, 26, and a 9-year-old son, Jorge Gallardo Enriquez, were taken by ambulance to an area hospital. They were listed in serious condition Tuesday and, contrary to earlier reports, were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident and were not ejected from the SUV, Johnson said.
