Charges dropped against Payson coach accused of injuring football player

Nine months after a volunteer football coach was arrested for colliding with a 13-year-old player running the ball near the sideline, all charges have been dropped.

Nathan Harris, 38, made headlines across Utah and the nation when a video showing an incident in the final minutes of a youth football game in Payson hit the web, and Harris was arrested for investigation of felony child abuse the following week.

Both Utah County prosecutors and the Payson City Attorney's Office declined to file charges, meaning additional charges cannot be filed in the case.

Man admits to gropings at University of Utah

An American Fork man who was ordered to stand trial for a series of gropings at the University of Utah has accepted a plea bargain.

Gary Winston Fotheringham, 32, pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted forcible sexual abuse in 3rd District Court Friday. In exchange for his pleas, the charges were reduced from second- to third-degree felonies. Two additional charges of voyeurism, a class B misdemeanor, were dismissed.

The charges all stem from events on or around the U. campus on Nov. 4, 2011. Witnesses testified that Fotheringham's behavior began that morning when he watched women change in a locker room of the Marriott School of Dance, and continued off campus that evening.

Dogs, puppies rescued from Ogden house fire

Firefighters rescued several dogs and puppies after an Ogden residence caught fire Saturday morning.

Fire crews from the Ogden and Roy fire departments responded to a house fire at 280 31st Street at 9 a.m. The house was subdivided into three apartments, and a room of one of the apartments had caught fire. The residents were not home and fire fighters had to rescue two dogs and six puppies from the fire.

The fire was contained to one room, and the other two remaining apartments were not damaged. The damage of the one apartment is estimated at $10,000.

Pastor gives $8,000 from Utahns to OK tornado victims

The gears of government disaster relief often turn slowly, and so pastors from a Utah church have trekked to Oklahoma.

Pastor Myke Crowder has seen the destruction of tornadoes. Two years ago, he travelled to Joplin, MO, to give aid to those whose homes were destroyed by tornadoes. Friday, he arrived home after giving $8,000 to victims of the tornadoes in Moore, OK.

The money was donated by people throughout the state of Utah.

Alliance for a Better Utah calls for A.G.'s resignationThe Alliance for a Better Utah is the latest organization to call for Attorney General John Swallow to resign.

Better Utah said it's no longer about whether Swallow committed a crime but about the harm he is causing to the attorney general's office and the state by staying on.

Swallow has said he hasn't committed a crime and has no plans to resign. He is the subject of federal, state and local investigations into his dealings with businessmen facing legal issues, as well as alleged election law violations.

UHD offers safety tips, warnings for Utahns during hot weather

With summer in full swing, the weather can get dangerously hot, and the Utah Health Department has a few warnings for Utahns.

The Utah Department of Health advised individuals that the weekend weather forecast is in the high temperature range, and the heat can place stress on your body and pose a threat to your vital organs.

Individuals are asked to be careful while doing physical labor outside in the heat as well. The Utah Department of Health also advises parents to pay close attention to children in direct sunlight, and to never leave kids in the car for any amount of time.
