This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

In Utah, we have a strong culture of being prepared. Many people know firsthand the peace it brings to a family and home when you're ready for life's unexpected events no matter what they may be. This includes having a plan in place for your home or business in the case of an emergency.

A magnitude 7.0 quake could have dramatic effects on the economy. Did you know that 40 percent of businesses that close in a disaster never reopen? Being prepared will help your company be ready to continue. You can even participate in free emergency preparedness training.

That's why the Great Utah ShakeOut is so important. This is a great time for businesses to practice their emergency plans. Currently, over 220 businesses with a total of 37,000 employees have registered to participate, showing their commitment to being resilient to a disaster. Registration is still open, and it's free. Just visit ShakeOut.org/Utah to join the statewide emergency drill. You can sign up your family or employees to participate.

During the Great Utah ShakeOut, you can drop to the ground, take cover under something sturdy and hold on for one minute. Afterward, take time to talk to those around you about disaster plans. This can increase your commitment to be prepared because the better we plan and practice now, the better we'll recover when the big one hits.

Speaking on Business is now on video. Check out the video edition of our radio program on the Zions Direct TV YouTube Channel. That's Zions Direct TV.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
