WEST VALLEY CITY — A man has been arrested after stealing a car and leading police on a short chase Monday morning.

Investigators said the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was in a stolen vehicle when he fled from officers near 4700 South and 4500 West.

The man drove through neighborhoods at speeds of 45 miles per hour before he drove the stolen vehicle into a field and then fled on foot.

West Valley Police Officers set up a containment and caught and arrested the man a short time later. Police said the chase itself only lasted 4 minutes.

"We have information that he lives fairly close to this area," Sgt. Jeff Konger said. "He was probably going to walk home if we didn't find him."

The suspect was taken into custody and was transported to jail. Police officers said he didn't have any other warrants out for his arrest.
