Gene Kennedy ReportingIdentity theft takes on a new twist this morning. A woman uses another woman's drivers license to conceal her identity after delivering a baby.
The mother of the baby wouldn't give much information to the hospital. She said she was Anndorie Sachs. When staff members at DCFS became concerned about the child's birth, they called who they thought was the mother.
But the real Anndorie Sachs had her wallet stolen out of her car a couple of months ago. She had cancelled her credit cards and accounts, then didn't think much of it, until she got a surprising phone call.
Anndorie Sachs: "I initially found out through a phone call from the Department of Child and Family Services, saying that they were wanting to talk to me about the baby I just had two days before."
Sachs had not been pregnant.
Police believe the identity thief used Sachs' drivers license at the hospital so no one could track her down.
Anndorie Sachs: "I just knew my ID's were stolen. Somebody pretended to be me. They had a baby and left it there, and now the birth certificate and social security information is in my name, and I'm listed as the mother of this child."
The child tested positive for methamphetamines, which may explain why the mother went to great lengths to conceal her identiy.
The baby is in foster care now. And police will keep searching for the mom.
