TAYLORSVILLE — A chase involving a stolen truck ended when the truck hit a car and then a house Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The incident began about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday when a woman spotted her car at a Walmart that had been stolen on Sunday from a West Valley home, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. The woman followed her stolen car while calling 911.

Officers caught up to the 2004 Dodge Ram on Redwood Road near 4300 South. The driver, 41-year-old Steven Valdez, refused to pull over, Hoyal said.

As police followed the man at speeds between 40 and 50 mph, the driver got into a minor crash at 4600 S. Redwood Road but continued driving. He then got onto 2200 West and sped up significantly, Hoyal said.

The fleeing suspect clipped the rear of a vehicle that had stopped to make a left turn, and then slid out of control into a house near 4050 South, he said. A mother and her 1-month-old baby were home at the time but were not injured, Hoyal said.

After crashing into the house, the man got out and tried to run but was quickly arrested. The man was carrying a .9mm handgun and drugs, according to Hoyal. Steven L. Valdez, 41, was arrested for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle, drugs, being a restricted person in possession of a firearm and fleeing.
