SALT LAKE CITY — A new school year brings excitement for kids, but for a child who has never spent a full school year in the same school there's an added level of anticipation.

I met this week's Wednesday's Child, Jamie, at the Gateway Mall in Salt Lake City for what she thought was a day of window shopping. But we found the perfect back-to-school outfit and walked away, with bag in hand, excited for her first day.

"I'm a different style-type of girl. It depends on the clothing," Jamie said.

Though the 16-year-old hasn't had many opportunities to go shopping, she definitely knows what she likes when she sees it. She and I picked several outfits she liked and, with a little convincing, she modeled them for me.

Jamie will be starting 11th grade this year, and she hopes for the first time ever she'll stay in the same school for the entire year.

Wednesday's Child Profile
Birthday: 04/1995
Age: 16
Grade in School: 11th
Special Interests: Music, shopping, hanging out.
Jamie is a trendy teenager who loves to look nice and dress up. Music, shopping and hanging out with people are just a few of her favorite things to do.

As a foster kid, Jamie has moved around a lot. Despite her challenges, she's confident in who she is. She wants to work in the medical field one day.

"I've been waiting for so long," she said.

Jamie's hoping this isn't just the year for a new school, but also the year for a new family.

"I've just wanted a family for so long," she said. "I just want to feel like I am cared for and that I have someone there to protect me."

During our shopping trip, we found the perfect outfit for Jamie's first day of school. New beginnings are just around the corner, and she has a message for her future family: "I will love you forever."
