(KSL News) -- Children under five receive significantly more protection against the flu from a spray vaccine as opposed to a shot, according to a new study.

The spray flu vaccine was 55 percent more effective in preventing the virus than the traditional shot.

Some of the children did experience wheezing for the weeks following the spray being administered.

The spray is currently only sold to children over five, but manufacturers want the government to change that.

The research was funded by the makers of flumist nasal spray.
