SANDY — Police are investigating incidents of hazing by members of the Jordan High School wrestling team.
The Sandy Police officer who works at this school received a tip late last week about a hazing incident involving the wrestling team. Police won't go into the nature of the hazing, but they said in order to investigate, they have to feel there is a possibility of criminal activity — and in this case, they do.
KSL did receive graphic details about the hazing incident that may have happened, but KSL is not reporting the details because neither the district nor the police would confirm them as more than speculation.
What has been confirmed is that late last week the district received a report of a hazing incident and since then has opened an investigation into the conduct of the wrestling team at Jordan High School.
When asked about the investigation so far, Canyons School District spokeswoman Jennifer Toomer-Cook said she could not comment on the findings of the investigation.

Police said they, too, received a report of a hazing incident late last week and that they have opened their own investigation.
"If there is a crime that can be associated with it, or is associated with it, we do the investigation to verify whether or not a crime has occurred; at this point, that's the stage we're in," said Sgt. Jon Arnold with the Sandy Police Department.
The district would not confirm how many students are involved in these hazing incidents, or when they happened. They also would not confirm if any wrestlers or coaches had been suspended.
