KEARNS — A man that barricaded himself in his home caused a precautionary school lockdown at an elementary school in Kearns Friday afternoon.

Bryant Clifton, 27, would not surrender himself to police, but barricaded himself in his home near 5190 S. Heath Avenue. Clifton was armed and making threats when the Kearns SWAT team responded to the location. Clifton's wife and 4-month-old baby were inside the home with him.

Local authorities placed a "soft" lockdown on Western Hills Elementary School as a precaution of the nearby SWAT standoff. The Lockdown began at 12:50 p.m., and the Granite School District posted a message on its Facebook page to inform parents of the situation.

The SWAT team was eventually able to take Clifton into custody, and the school lockdown ended.

Clifton was charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and domestic violence in the presence of a child.

No one was injured during the standoff. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
