SALT LAKE CITY — San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore was fined $10,500 for "breaking" the NFL dress code.
In Sunday's win, Gore wore his socks down around his ankles, which apparently is not allowed. Players are supposed to wear their socks high to meet the bottom of the uniform pants. While the fine is pretty steep and would likely be a nice paycheck for most of us, Gore was likely warned about the incident prior to Sunday's game, but chose to ignore the warnings.
But if Gore's fine seems unreal, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was fined $10,000 for pushing away an opposing player with his cleat. While the fine was likely warranted for Brady, why is it less than the fine for wearing socks too low? I guess we'll never understand the NFL's fines system. Maybe it's meant to keep us guessing.
Delmon Young must lose weight
Baseball used to be considered America's pastime sport, but has since been eclipsed by the NFL. Some argue baseball players are not real athletes, given the not-so-impressive physique of many players. In what other sport (bowling or golf, maybe?) can you have a gut, but still get paid top dollar?
Delmon Young must be 230 pounds or less the first 3 times he's weighed. 235 pounds or less on the 2nd 3. Gets 100K each time he makes weight

Well, for MLB player Delmon Young, a new contract requires that he lose a few pounds before the Phillies will sign him, according to Dan Gelston of the Associated Press. Young must get on a scale six random times, and must be 230 pounds or less for his first three weigh-ins and 235 pounds or less on the last three weigh-ins. Gelston said Young will make $100,000 each time he makes weight.
Young is currently listed as 240, but likely weighs more now that baseball is in the offseason.
JaMarcus Russell back in the NFL?
The former No. 1 pick by the Oakland Raiders, JaMarcus Russell, told Yahoo! Sports that he wants to return to the NFL. He said he's tired of people thinking he was an NFL bust.
"People don't know the real you, but I want people to know the real me and see what I can do," Russell said. "People are always saying that I'm a bust. I want to show them I'm not. I'm committed to this now."
Russell hasn't played in the league for three years, but has many tutors to help him get back in the game. Russell's work ethic was questioned while with the Raiders, but he says he's willing to work to get back in the game.
Russell apparently got up to about 320 pounds, but has since dropped to about 308. Who knows if anyone will have sympathy for Russell and his return. I hear the New York Jets are looking for a QB.
