6-year-old dies in sledding accident

FAIRVIEW — A 6-year-old boy was killed in a sledding accident after he struck a tree and injured his head.

The boy and his family were out for a day of sledding Saturday up Fairview Canyon, according to tweets from the Sanpete County Sheriff's department.

The boy came down the hill after several other family members and struck a tree, police said, and suffered a serious head trauma.

Family was not far away and tried to help the boy. They took the him to Sanpete Valley Hospital where he died as a result of his injures, police said.

The family has asked for privacy and the name of the victim has not been released.
