PROVO — The 2012-13 football season may be over, but memories of BYU's 8-5 season live on via post-season awards and invitations.

The latest Cougar achievements come from the 2012 All-Independent Team and individual Players of the Year, as well as a special invitation to the 88th Annual East-West Shrine game.

Named to the Ray Guy Award watch list and Independent Player of the Week four times this past season, punter Riley Stephenson capped off his senior year receiving the title of Special Teams Player of the Year among the Independent teams.

In addition to Sephenson's contribution were BYU Cougars filling in the spots of the All-Independent Team. Wide receiver Cody Hoffman and offensive lineman Braden Brown were both selected for the offense, while on the other side of the line, Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah, Kyle Van Noy and Jordan Johnson were dubbed defensive members of the All-Independent Team.

The Cougars swept the special teams awards — the aforementioned Stephenson, plus JD Falslev as a returner.

Honorable mentions were given out to Preston Hadley, Braden Hansen, Brandon Ogletree, Daniel Sorensen and Jamaal Williams.

Not only were awards swept up by BYU, but an invitation was extended the Cougars' way as well.

Brown, BYU's offensive lineman on the All-Independent Team, was invited to participate in the 88th Annual East-West Shrine Game.

A right tackle guarding BYU quarterback Riley Nelson's blind side, Brown started 38 consecutive games and is the team leader in knockdown blocks this past season. He follows former Cougar Matt Reynolds, who participated in the last East-West Shrine game and now plays for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The game, which will take place in the middle of January, is an opportuntiy to showcase potential NFL drafters and is a benefit event for Shriners Hospitals for Children.
