SPRING, Tex. — A family is desperately searching for their dog after thieves broke in.

Earlier this week, burglars raced through Dan Grant's home, making off with electronics, Christmas gifts and a 1-year-old miniature Schnauzer by the name of Stella.

"That's just mean, it's just heartless," Grant said. "That's the only thing that I want back is my dog, I don't care about the TVs and the Xboxes. My kids don't care about the video systems. All they want is their dog back."

Grant said his wife came home to find both back doors open and the home ransacked. Thieves made off electronics and all of the family's Christmas gifts. They spilled the Grants' Barbie dolls from toy bins, stole the sheets off of their son's bed. The children are afraid to go upstairs to their rooms.

Stella was also taken. The family kept her kennel next to the Christmas tree and Stella's red stocking still hangs over the fireplace.

"We got Stella about a year ago after our previous dog passed away," said Grant. "The kids just lost a dog now they've lost a second one in a year."

Grant said what is most unsettling is the possibility is that these thieves may have already been inside the family's home. The reason Grant wonders about this possibility is because the door to his home office is in the kitchen and is designed to look like a floor-to-ceiling spice rack.
