WEST VALLEY CITY — A man under investigation for the death of his girlfriend's infant son was arrested Friday.

On May 26, police received reports from a residence that a baby was having breathing problems. The infant was transported to Primary Children's Hospital, where he was declared brain dead, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in 3rd District Court. He died after being taken off of life support on May 30.

According to police Saturday, the cause of death was an anoxic brain injury.

Reed Allen Wilcox, 29, had been watching the infant at 4019 S. 4275 West on May 26. Wilcox originally claimed he had laid the baby down on a blanket on the floor for a nap.

In multiple interviews with police in July, he denied knowing what had happened.

Police found Internet searches had been conducted on his computer surrounding SIDS, strangulation and "what to do when interviewed by police detectives," according to the warrant.

In those original interviews, he told investigators he searched those topics so he knew what to say when police arrived, and maintained his innocence.

Friday, an arrest warrant was served after the investigation determined that he "had murdered his roommate's 6-month-old son," a press release said.

Wilcox was charged with murder in the 3rd Disctrict Court and booked into the Salt Lake County Adult Detention Center.
