It wasn't long after BYU's Tuesday practice wrapped up that head coach Bronco Mendenhall was again asked about Riley Nelson's availability for Friday night's home game with Utah State.

Nelson didn't take any practice reps during Monday's session, but Mendenhall said Tuesday saw Nelson participating much more extensively.

"He got probably double what I had expected him to get," Bronco said of Nelson's live snaps. "He took team reps, skelly reps, so it's moving in the right direction; still too early to call as to whether he'll be ready or not."

With Riley returning to practice, last week's starter Taysom Hill said he and Nelson essentially split reps. Hill thought the practice session went well, saying, "I thought we came out and practiced fast, the tempo was good; I thought we executed well."

BYU defensive back Mike Hague missed last week' s game against Hawaii with a calf injury and it appears he will be out again this week. When asked if Hague could be back against the Aggies, Bronco said, "I don't think so, not for this week; hopefully for the next one, but that will be close as well."

Mendenhall also said that linebacker Zac Stout (Achilles) suffered a setback after seeing limited time in the Hawai'i game. Stout is not expected to be available against Utah State.
