The BYU Cougars returned to their winning ways on Friday night as they beat Hawaii 47-0. Here are some immediate thoughts on tonight's game in Provo...
First and foremost, starting Taysom Hill was absolutely the right decision. He ended the night with 112 yards through the air with two touchdowns, as well as 143 yards rushing, including a 68 yard touchdown run. Yes, he threw an interception on a bad pass, but I'm willing to forget that based on everything else he did tonight
Besides Taysom Hill, the other bright spots offensively for the Cougars was Jamaal Williams. The true freshman rushed for 155 yards and scored two touchdowns. With Michael Alisa suffering a fractured forearm, Williams may get the bulk of the carries moving forward.
With all of the criticism of the offensive line, I thought they played well tonight. There was some personnel shuffling before tonight's game and I thought it worked out well.
What else can be said that hasn't already been mentioned about this BYU defense? They are playing great and tonight was no different.
Thank goodness penalties were not a problem tonight for BYU. After struggling the past few weeks with costly penalties, the Cougars committed six for the game; and they were a non-factor.
Even though the victory was against a bad Hawaii team, BYU made progress tonight. After two demoralizing losses, the Cougars needed a night like this. Now it's time to get ready for a very good Utah State team next Friday night in Provo.
