Top five most impressive wins this week

No. 2 Manti

This looked on paper to be a fantastic matchup. Two of the top three ranked teams in 2A in a rematch from last year's semifinals. The game was basically over in the 1st quarter when Connor Aste connected with Jamen Miller for an 89 yard touchdown. Manti led 21-0 at the half and the defense forced 5 turnovers while shutting out a very explosive South Summit offense. The win put Manti in control of the 2A North and will likely lead to a top seed in the playoffs. Skyline

Herriman started last year 5-0 before losing to Skyline on a last second field goal. This time the Eagles scored a late touchdown to come from behind and stun the Mustangs who were heavily favored. Now Skyline looks to be in control of the Region 7 race thanks to the win. North Sanpete

North Sanpete came into this game with a losing record while Juab was off to a 4-1 start and looked like the only team in Region 12 that could challenge Spanish Fork for the region title. Instead of Juab rolling to an easy victory it was the Hawks that rolled in a stunning 34-12 win in the region opener for both teams. No. 2 Syracuse

The fact that Syracuse beat Layton at home comes as no surprise. What was impressive is how dominant they were in the win. They held a Layton offense with talented skill players like Utah State commit Tyler Fox to just 103 yards and kept them from scoring. The offense racked up 355 yards of total offense as they prepare for their big clash with Northridge on Friday. No. 3 Alta

The Hawks bounced back after a tough loss to Jordan with a win over rival Brighton. They put up 48 points against a team that had only been giving up an average of 11 points per game. The game was tight in the 3rd quarter before Alta pulled away with 20 unanswered points. Chipper Lucero threw for 299 yards and five touchdowns to four different receivers. Top five performances of the week

Austin Kafentzis QB Jordan

Austin could make this list every week but what he did on Friday was remarkable. He was 24-of-33 for 363 yards and eight touchdowns in a 56-0 victory over Copper Hills. Seven of the eight touchdowns came in the first half. He also added 83 yards rushing to his impressive performance. James Felila RB Kearns

Felila carried the ball just 16 times and was able to rack up 280 yards and four touchdowns in a 46-0 win over Taylorsville. He had touchdown runs of 70, 60, and 43 yards. Braden Harris RB/LB Gunnison

Harris, a Utah State commit, rushed for 181 yards on offense and had two sacks on defense to help the Bulldogs defeat American Leadership Academy 28-10. Skyler Munson WR Pleasant Grove

Munson and Vikings quarterback Michael Anderson have been putting up big numbers together and they did it again Friday night. Munson had four catches for 210 yards and two touchdowns in a 46-11 win over Lehi. Anderson finished with 303 yards of passing. Mone Latu FB/LB Granger

Latu had 14 tackles and 5 sacks leading the Lancers to an important region win over Viewmont
