This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Small business is the lifeblood of the United States, comprising around 90 percent of our national economy. Closer to home, small business remains a vital part of our economic recovery. Just a few months ago Utah was named the third best state in the nation for starting a small business.

As someone who both supports small businesses and owns several, Tif Provost understands the importance of small businesses. Her Salt Lake City company, AxisT (ag-sist, like exist but with an ag), has a dual focus: providing high-end equipment for arcades, hotels and individuals and operating a real estate company that owns the thriving city block where her business is located.

Changes in the economy have meant changes for AxisT. They used to have a large inventory because there was so much lead time to get equipment. Now there's less demand, so the manufacturers sell in smaller quantities, meaning new products are shipped out in only two days.

Tif was born and raised in a coin-op vending and arcade business, and in 1991, she entered a partnership with her father. She couldn't have been happier working with her dad until he passed away five years ago. She continues his legacy with AxisT.

People can also come to AxisT to buy or rent a vending machine to start their own business. This is a turnkey opportunity because they provide all the equipment and service so all you have to do is provide the product for the machines. Vending machines are the best way to tell what a market is into because you'll see exactly what sells.

AxisT is a great example of Utah innovation.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
