This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Let me tell you, if you haven't been to One Sweet Slice in South Jordan and tried their cupcakes, you're really missing out! People from all over the valley come to try these cupcakes and custom cakes including the bestselling Coconut Key Lime and Chocolate Fleur de Sol. And now they're receiving national attention! Just a week ago owner/founder Janell Brown was named the winner of "Cupcake Wars" on the Food Network.

She beat out other competitors from across the United States in the Star Wars themed episode. The experience of applying and being invited to compete was quite a process; however, Janell loved it and is already seeing an increase in business. And it was her customers who told her she should apply to be on the show!

This custom cake and cupcake shoppe has been delighting customers with their sweet treats since they launched a year and a half since ago. People are discovering One Sweet Slice through their website, word of mouth or from simply driving by. The location just off 106th South and Redwood Rd has been great for that.

The real draw is the custom cakes and cupcakes for all occasions. Cakes at One Sweet Slice are so popular, Janell is often booked out for several months with clients from across the Wasatch Front. And she's won several awards locally for her work including being voted best cupcakes and best wedding cakes on the KSL A List. A trend today is to do cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake. Another trend is to have a dessert bar with a selection of different treats instead of just cake.

With an average of 10 employees, One Sweet Slice is really taking off. Janell is pleased to see what started as a hobby of making cakes for friends and family turn into a successful company that continues to grow.

Speaking on Business is now on video. Check out the video edition of our radio program on the Zions Direct TV YouTube Channel. That's Zions Direct TV.
