PROVO -- Former Timpview High football coach Louis Wong's teaching license has been suspended for 18 months.
The Utah State Board of Education voted on the suspension on Friday. The Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission had recommended that his license be suspended for one year.
There was a motion to suspend Wong's license for two years, which failed. Then board member Mark Openshaw made a motion to follow UPPAC's recommendation and suspend the license for one year.

That motion failed also. Openshaw said another motion on the 18 month suspension was unanimously approved.
Wong was originally suspended, then fired after an audit uncovered financial irregularities. He then reached an agreement in which he dropped his grievance against the district for his firing in exchange for being allowed to resign effective May 2012.
The school district accepted his resignation, withdrew its firing, and payed off the balance of Wong's contract.
