Our question tonight is...When was the department of Veteran Affairs established? And here's the answer.

The United States has a long history when it comes to helping veterans. The Continental Congress of 1776 encouraged enlistments during the Revolutionary War by providing pensions for soldiers who were disabled. In 1811, the first medical facility for veterans was authorized by the Federal Government. But it was in 1930 that Congress authorized the President to "consolidate and coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans." and establish the Department of Veteran Affairs.
