FARMINGTON — Troopers have released the name of the man who was hit and killed while fueling his car on the side of I-15 Tuesday night.
He is Enriqui Vealero, 52, from Ogden.
Troopers say his car ran out of gas along northbound I-15 near Lagoon around 10 p.m. He pulled at least three feet off the road, and his family brought him a gas can.
As he was fueling his car, a car driven by a 41-year-old woman from Bountiful drifted into the emergency lane and hit him. Vealero was killed on impact. The car that hit him spun back into traffic and was hit by another northbound car.
The woman who hit Vealero was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. It's unknown why she drifted off the road, and troopers say it's still unclear whether she will face charges.
The driver of the car that hit the woman's was not injured.
Troopers warn motorists that if their car breaks down, they should get as far away from the road as possible. UHP also pleads with drivers to pay attention and move over if they see a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road.
