TOOELE — Three families have been displaced after a fire in a Tooele trailer park completely destroyed three mobile homes and damaged others.
Firefighters were called to White's Mobile Home Park at 1120 W. Utah Avenue Sunday at around 12:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is unknown, although Tooele police received reports that the fire could have been caused by a 6-year-old.
"We're being told there were children playing with matches in a shed," said Lt. Adrian Day with the Tooele Police Department. "It's under investigation."
Day said the speculation has not been confirmed. If it is, the fire would mark the second time in as many days that a child playing with matches started a fire. A Pleasant Grove home was completely destroyed Saturday after a 5-year-old started a fire in the garage of the home.
There were no major injuries reported. One adult went to the hospital with minor burns. Neighbors said the fire was "horrific."
"I saw the trailer across the street just bursting into flames, and the fire climbing up the tree next to the house," Vincent Brown said. "It didn't take long for it to involve the trailer next to it, and it was pretty horrific."
The Red Cross has sent a team of volunteers to assist those displaced and will offer food, clothing and shelter if needed.
