PLEASANT GROVE — Warning children not to play with matches is a well-known cliche, but the image became a cruel reality for five people displaced from their home Saturday.

Fire officials said that a 5-year-old playing was playing with matches in the garage of a Pleasant Grove home at 459 E. 1560 North. Somehow, something flammable caught fire and flames soon engulfed the home.

Officials were apparently on scene in minutes, but the blaze was too much and could not be contained. The house was a total loss.

Five people were living in the home, three upstairs and two in a smaller downstairs apartment.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
