SALT LAKE CITY — Navy officer Jody Greene who had been serving in Afghanistan, was welcomed home Friday by friends and family.

The Bronze Star recipient had been serving with the Navy in Afghanistan in his first deployment there, but his third overall. He served twice in the Persian Gulf. In Afghanistan, he advised the National Civil Police there, helping them regain control of their country, he said.

Neighbors, with help from the Boy Scouts, lined the street with flags, and Greene said, he wondered what holiday it was before he realized the flags were out waving to honor him.

"We're very proud of him and grateful we live in this land where guys like him make things like this possible," said one neighbor, Brent Anderton.
