The past six years, my husband and I were privileged to work with hundreds of young single adults in our stake and region of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints…and with our missionaries in Georgia. The years between the ages of 18-30 are a complex phase of life. My husband Steve calls it the "decade of decisions," because these young people are virtually having to make so many of life's big choices—where to go to school, whether to serve a mission, what do to do for a career, where to work, whom to date and marry, and how to pay for it all… Talk about pressure!
With the geographic realignment of Young Single Adult wards last year —and the creation of YSA stakes—the Church is focusing in on helping these young people stay active in the gospel and focused. But they still have to deal with the challenges of life—and one is finding that eternal companion.
On this Sunday's edition of "Mormon Times TV," we'll see if LDS young people are looking for love in all the right places, as we introduce you to "The Mormon Bachelor," who's dating online for all to see…hoping to end up with a wife and a temple marriage. We'll also have a panel of YSA's in- studio to talk about the challenges of dating and whether cultural pressure adds extra frustration.
Also on our July 15 show, we'll revisit a sad and shocking story in the news recently—that of a newly-returned LDS missionary whose life changed in a second. You'll see how a fun game turned tragic for Tere Parra, and how she's enduring this new challenge with courage.
LDS Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland reflects on his visit to West Africa this year, where the people are humble and life is simple. The Church is growing at an incredible rate there, and you'll see why Elder Holland says it's the miracle of the Restoration literally unfolding before our eyes.
Speaking of the restoration of the gospel, you'll get a look at one of the most authentic printing museums anywhere and see how inspiration and innovation got the Bible and Book of Mormon into the hands of the common man.
