SOUTH JORDAN — This week's High 5 goes to a man who put together a team to compete in an Ironman competition earlier this month. That's just one example of how Travis Ferran inspires others to be their best.
Ferran's sister, Deanne Ross, nominated her brother for the High 5. She says Ferran recently helped her lose 105 pounds through his inspiration and encouragement.
"He's a great example of caring for others and making them believe in themselves and follow their dreams," she said.
Ferran also got friends together to form a team that competed in the Ironman in St. George on May 5. This was the second time he participated in the competition.
"I competed last year and it was a really great thing," he said. "I was able to lose a little bit of weight and deal with some stress in my life. It's been a great help."
"I started talking to other friends and said, ‘Hey, come and do Ironman,'" Ferran said. "They looked at me like, ‘You're crazy.' But it's been a really fun thing."
A friend named Jeff admits he had his doubts when Ferran and another acquaintance encouraged him to participate. "I thought, ‘That's a long ways. That's just too far.' They encouraged me, encouraged me, and I finally committed."
"It's been a great experience for me, as well," Jeff said.
Ferran received a gift basket from our High 5 partners at Les Schwab.
