KASOTA, Minn. — The population of Kasota, Minnesota nearly doubled Saturday as the crew from Drive-A-Tank, a company which gives average civilians a chance to maneuver massive tanks, arrived for spectacle worth a good seat.
Their mission: to demolish one of the town's oldest homes.
"We've done a barn, but never a house," said Tony Burglum, Drive-A-Tank's owner and operator. "We thought we could provide a little entertainment."
The home, built nearly 150 years ago, was scheduled for demolition on Monday.
But for the homeowners, why not have a little fun in the process?
"I talked about it with the guys and we decided to it," said Doug Volk, who's lived in the home for 20 years. "This will be a story we'll have for many years."
The 432 British Tank passed through the home four times and the crowd of a few hundred cheered for every one of them.
"This is amazing," said Chris Burg. "Only in Kasota would they do something like this."
In about 25 minutes, the home that stood in the center of town since the mid 1800s was flattened.
"I think it went pretty well!" said Borglum. "With this being a wood structure, it was a cakewalk."
New owners have purchased the property and plan to build a new home.
