PROVO — A Provo car dealership is cleaning up after a costly case of vandalism.
The owner and employees of The Car Depot, at 1111 S. State Street, noticed the bright orange spray paint streaked across several cars when they got to work Friday morning.
"Looks like Blue Stake has come out and painted across to keep lines in straight," employee Randy Goyne said.
He said Blue Stakes workers were out at his lot Thursday marking for a project. But Blue Stakes representatives said their employees were gone from the location by 12:30 Thursday afternoon.
When the staff left the dealership at 8 p.m., everything was fine, according to Blue Stakes, so they believe a vandal struck sometime in the middle of the night.
"It'd be nice if someone took responsibility for it and would help," Goyne said.
Could it be that a vandal found a leftover can of paint, and went to work? Blue Stakes representatives insist their employees take all of their materials and garbage away from work sites.
They also claim it's not even the same paint — Blue Stakes uses solvent-based, this paint appears to be chalk based.
"I hope we can get it off," Wakefield said. "We might have to repaint some of them, which is extremely expensive."
"We'll have to get the guys who work here to work Saturday, or something, to get (the cars) all cleaned up," he added.
Provo police are investigating the crime. If you saw something suspicious at the dealership Thursday night, give them a call at 801-852-6210.
