RIVERTON — A Riverton family can't believe that someone stole a family treasure from their shed.
Jeannette Hoops' father bought a 1927 Pierce Arrow Roadster in 1963. "He's always had a history of buying old cars, but this one was his favorite," she said.
Back then, he paid $3,400 for it. Vintage Motor Cars says today at auction it could go for as much as $75,000. That is exactly what the family planned to do with it until it was stolen Monday.
Hoops says it couldn't have been easy for the thieves to get away with it.
"It would have had to been put on a trailer. I don't think it even had a battery in it, so it's not like they could charge it," Hoops said.
Unified police say the roadster is a unique car and should be easily noticed. They are hoping for tips that will help in their investigation. Hoops said the family is offering a reward in the case but didn't specify an amount.
