Talk about staying power! Beverly Cleary, the beloved children's book writer from Oregon, turns 90 on Wednesday. Her best-selling books -- soon to be reissued in new editions -- are just as timeless.
The "Ramona" series has been continuously in print for half a century and recently was optioned for a Hollywood film.
In honor of Cleary's achievements, Wednesday has been designated National D.E.A.R. Day -- for Drop Everything and Read, a just-for-fun reading time memorialized in "Ramona Quimby, Age 8."
You can celebrate with 30 minutes of family reading time or look for special events at bookstores and libraries. Visit www.dropeverythingandread.com to learn more.
