ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- Fares at Zion National Park could be on the rise.
The southern Utah national park is proposing a rate increase that would take effect in 2007.
The entrance fee for private, non-commercial vehicles would increase from 20 to 25 dollars. Pedestrians, bicycles and motorcycles would have to pay a 12-dollar fee -- slightly up from the current ten-dollar rate.
The fee for an annual pass would increase from 40 dollars to 50 dollars.
Zion Superintendent Jock Whitworth says Congress has been good about giving the national park a little more money each year. But inflation is making it more expensive to maintain the vast area and there is a backlog of projects to be completed.
